Swamp Blooms for Bonnard, 55x52”, part of the upcoming Venice sale.
I’ve been finding ways of celebrating Christo-Capitalist holidays with my children that feel resonant to me. I recently discovered that the word Easter was taken from the old english Ēostre, for the goddess of Spring. And so as we hunt for Easter Eggs and gather with friends and family in yards and parks, I will be thinking of that Spring Goddess, who brings the bluebonnets and the eggs.
Tangle, detail. 84x120”. Acrylic and Flashe on primed canvas.
Maybe I shouldn’t say it aloud, but I think I’m making the best work of my life. I don’t know what anyone will think of the paintings themselves, but the way I feel about painting right now is simply thrilling.
I am finally at a scale that serves me. And I’m unafraid, or able, when I am afraid, to overturn it and allow myself to stumble out into the darkness. I am excited to be alive and painting.
Here’s a video upon completing Tangle. (Next time I’ll share Imbolc, named for another forgotten holiday.) Photos don’t serve me, as it’s too large to encapsulate the details, or give you the sense of immersion that happens when you are near a painting of this size.
Add to my excitement, a trip to Venice!
I’m going mid-April for the opening of the Venice Biennale. In preparation, I’m having a small but mighty Venice Sale.
These are large-scale works on paper, normally retailing for $8000-$10,000, that I am offering for a brief time at $2500-$5000. If you have a wall for it, and you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to invest in a piece, this is your moment.
