A Clarification.
Baby Blues, letting my art speak for my ups and downs. 44x36”. Acrylic and Flashe on watercolor paper.
There’s something I want to clarify.
Lately I’ve been getting a lot of concerned responses to my letters and videos, and I appreciate your care. My grief (and connected rage) is largely for the planet, and all of us trying to live on it in difficult and dangerous times.
Of course I have personal challenges along the way, and I am good at asking for and receiving help from those close to me.
I will never use this platform as a cry for help.
Lupine. 45x34”. Acrylic and Flashe on watercolor paper.
My hope is to voice what is true for me, and maybe it is true for you, too. Perhaps when you hear it articulated, your shoulders soften and you feel less alone.
It won’t happen to everyone, but I say it for the ones who will meet me there.
Rivers. 30x22”. Acrylic and oil pastel. This one isn’t on my website!
Writing to you is an ongoing experiment I started 16 years ago.
Back then, I stuck to chipper and charming. But after Instagram came and made everyone’s life look like a glossy magazine, I decided to use this medium to paint a more variegated picture of who I am and the work I make.
There’s lots of course correction, and no final destination. It’s one attempt after another to reach you, be seen, and feel connected and understood.
(My concept of understanding, and whether or not it is actually the goal, is undergoing a big shift since this last residency with Deborah Hay. More on that later.)
Truth on the Water. 44x35” Acrylic and Flash on watercolor paper.
Quick reminder: I am moving to a new website soon, and open edition prints will no longer be available. Shop now, or miss them forever!
Nacissus (above) and Ile (below), two paintings available as open edition prints, but not for much longer!
As girls, we are told to cock our heads gently for a photograph, exposing our delicate necks. I lead with vulnerability, but sometimes hide my stalwart sense of inner being, my power.
I invite you to see me in that light.
